Glycol chillers help fermenters maintain the cooling side of fermentation temperature control. The GC4 allows you to control the cooling side of fermentation of up to four fermenters.
When fermentation occurs, it produces heat. But when fermentations get too hot, it can cause the yeast to produce undesirable off-flavours. Therefore, brewers apply cooling to the fermenter so that the yeast has a comfortable and repeatable environment in which to work. Many brewers use fridges for this application. But one large fridge per fermenter soon takes up a lot of space.
Glycol chillers are small-footprint refrigeration units that cool a glycol tank to sub-freezing temperatures. This cold glycol can be called upon at any point needed to cool and regulate the temperature of the fermenter.
